Kakamega Rotary Education Initiative
A Joint Project of the Rotary Clubs of Kakamega, Kenyaand Strathcona Sunrise, Canada
Kakamega is situated in a very poor, rural part of Kenya. Current stastistics show that 66% of Kenyan children start Primary School; less than half finish. Of these survivors only about 10% continue to Secondary education. In the Kakamega area, the numbers are probably worse. In Kenya the government only pays the government teachers salaries. All other expenses must be paid by the parents/guardians of the students. Consequently, less than 40% of the students are able to attend secondary schools. This project pays the school fees for 7 students (4 boarders and 3 day school students) to attend secondary school. The project is administered by the RC of Kakamega.
